With his depth at outside back plagued by injuries to Daniel Woolard and Robbie Russell, Head Coach Ben Olsen has some difficult decisions to make on the perimeter of his defense.
But with regard to one particular option, it seems Olsen?s mind ? in the long term anyway ? is all but made up.

Marcelo Saragosa wasn?t supposed to be the central midfield player that unlocked the Black-and-Red attack. Branko Boskovic?s passing or Dwayne De Rosario?s playmaking or even Lewis Neal?s work rate were all far more likely candidates to inspire Ben Olsen?s club to one of its best offensive performances of 2012.
But on Wednesday night, when United needed a result worse than at any other time this year, the unheralded Brazillian stepped up.

On Thursday, Danny Cruz and Chris Korb were teammates.
On Sunday, they lined up opposite each other in a rivalry that is quickly turning into Major League Soccer?s most heated regional conflict.

Today, the NASL named Fort Lauderdale Strikers midfielder Conor Shanosky Defensive Player of the Week following a strong performance on the road against the Puerto Rico Islanders on 8/18. Shanosky, D.C. United?s third homegrown player to sign with the first team (following Bill Hamid and Andy Najar), is currently on a season-long loan with the Strikers.
Shanosky has helped the Strikers to an 8-7-8 record this season, playing in 23 games with 22 starts for the NASL side.
